Long gone are the days when simply having a website would attract customers to your business. Nowadays websites have to be marketed effectively if you want to build a successful internet presence. The first step of this is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Learn the principles of SEO and what YOU can do to build the relevancy and trust that helps to improve your website’s position in the search engine results. During this workshop we will interactively look at participants’ websites to show off some key SEO tools & techniques.

This session is aimed at business owners who wish to understand more about Search Engine Optimisation and what practical steps they can take to help improve their search engine rankings for relevant searches. It is aimed at business owners, not website developers.
The session will be divided into three separate sections:
- Preparation/research
Understanding SEO in the context of online marketing & how search engines work, finding out how well your website is indexed, and researching what your potential customers are searching for & how well you are performing against this. - Your website
Looking at the anatomy of a web page, optimisation of page titles, descriptions and overall content to establish relevancy to customer search terms. - The rest of the internet
Covering the importance of link building, what constitutes a quality link, how to research links, how to build links, other website promotion activities, local search and Google Universal Search.
Each section will be followed by Questions & Answers and the opportunity to interactively apply some of the tools and techniques to selected attendees’ websites.
No technical knowledge is assumed: although a good working knowledge of using the internet is. Technical website implementation aspects of SEO will not be discussed. Useful free tools to help you with SEO will be introduced during the session.
Of 2 hours duration, the session will be quite intensive and aim to cover as broad a scope as possible.
